For Microdissection of Frozen Brain Sections
This set of 5 punches, with spring loaded nylon expellers, and a convenient handle, facilitates the "Palkovits Punch" technique of dissecting out specific brain nuclei for neurochemistry.
The Cervical Dislocator is a completely humane and efficient means of sacrificing laboratory rodents bloodlessly. Evidence indicates that the brain stem is terminated instantly by a blow from the metal bar.
There is no external wound, and so there is no blood to clean up, and no smell of blood to alert remaining animals. Pathogens or viruses are not spread. Blood and internal organs remain uncontaminated.
Make Your Selection
Small animal decapitator has hardened and ground surgical stainless steel blades, aluminum base and stainless steel hardware. With its 1 1/2" square maximum blade opening, it is suitable for decapitating rats, mice and other small animals. The decapitator cuts cleanly and quickly through bone and tissue. The base has four holes for bench mounting.
The large animal decapitator is similar to our small animal decapitator, but with maximum blade opening of 4 inches square. For use with rabbits, small monkeys, and other large sized animals.
Replacement blades are available only for the 51330 Small Animal Decapitator and blades must be installed at the factory.
Two sizes available These new temperature controlled freezing stages have been designed with many new technical features:
• microprocessor-controlled temperature control
• continuous display of set and run temperature
• temperature control from -40°C to ambient temperature
• new "quick-thaw" switch allows to quickly defrost frozen samples
• switch on back converts from 110 or 220V operation
Provides access to the head and also allows access to food and water if desired.
Offered in 4 sizes to accommodate indicated rodent weights.
High Precision Oscillating Microtome
Blade advance and reverse during sectioning is precise and steadfast. A feedback system allows constant cutting speed to be maintained through variations in tissue density. The blade returns for next slice at high speed to minimize total sectioning time.
Major Benefits·Minimum of induced trauma·Maximum preservation of cell structure·Conservation of biochemical state·Reduced tissue damage
Designed for intubation feeding of lab animals. These needles are also ideal for transcardiac perfusions with fixative.
The ball end will not cut or puncture biological tubes (e.g., esophagus, aorta), and can be conveniently tied in place. Sold in packages of 4.
For Rapid Serial Sectioning of Multiple Preparations of Living Tissue
The McIlwain™ Tissue Chopper is a proven instrument for rapidly sectioning living or fixed tissue without freezing or embedding to harden the tissue. It cuts living tissue into slices, cubes, arterial rings, etc. with a minimum of functional disturbance. It can been used to cut multiple brain sections rapidly, and to obtain live-cell liver and kidney sections. These live preparations can then be used in studies of metabolism or for electrophysiology. The McIlwain™ Tissue Chopper may also be used to cube fixed tissue for araldite embedding or EM.
The mice and rat restrainers are built in cylinder-shaped perspex. Lateral slots and holes allow for the animals ventilation and makes the access for i.p. drug administration possible.
The available space for the animal can be adjusted by means of a sliding piston, thereby keeping the whole tail free for the pulse transducer and the cuff positioning or for i.v. drug administration.
The animal is led in from the back and can walk out in the front, thus avoiding dragging it backwards.
